Tekka is a modular architectural casework system, designed and built in Vancouver. It is composed of a precise framework of standardized components — covering storage, work, living, and sleep functions — that can be configured to fit any space and combined freely within a single composition. The system delivers the design quality, material standard, and longevity of fully custom millwork, within a process that is significantly faster and more accessible.
-
Tekka is developed by Anthill Studio, a Vancouver design and fabrication studio that has been building custom millwork for over fifteen years. Tekka is the system that emerged from that practice — designed once, refined repeatedly, and built in our own Vancouver workshop.
-
Not quite — and that's intentional. Custom millwork is fully bespoke: designed from scratch for each project, built once, and priced accordingly. Tekka delivers the same materials, the same fabrication standards, and the same architectural intent — but within a defined system, with significantly faster lead times and more accessible pricing. The trade-off is that Tekka works within a parametric framework rather than being completely open-ended. For most projects, this is a feature, not a limitation.
-
Tekka is architecturally designed casework, built by a fabrication studio. California Closets is a closet and storage company built around standardized parts and a national installer network. IKEA Pax is a flat-pack closet system. The differences show up in materials, precision, design language, and longevity. Tekka is configurable to the millimetre, uses real wood veneers and premium ultra-matte laminates over MDF substrate, and is installed by the team that built it.
Design and Specification
-
Wherever feels comfortable. You can send us a brief — what you want your space to do — along with a floor plan or photographs. You can come to our showroom. You can call. Some clients arrive with detailed unit specifications already in mind. Others arrive with a single sentence about the room they want to resolve. We work with you from whatever starting point makes sense.
-
Tekka units are configurable to the millimetre in width (excluding beds, which have fixed mattress sizes), available in two depths and a range of heights, and adapt freely across the four product categories. Within the system, the flexibility is substantial.
-
Yes — and this is worth understanding. Because Anthill Studio is a custom millwork shop, anything is technically possible. But once a project moves outside the Tekka system, it loses the benefits that make Tekka what it is: predictable lead times, accessible pricing, and the efficiency of a designed framework. Custom work requires custom design time, custom programming, and custom fabrication — meaning the cost and timeline shift meaningfully. We will tell you honestly when a project would be better served by fully custom millwork, and we offer both pathways.
-
No. Many of our clients work with us directly. Others come to us through their designer or architect, and we collaborate with them as a trade partner. Either path works well — Tekka is designed to support both.
-
Yes. As part of our design process we produce detailed 3D renderings of every project, showing your specific configuration installed in your space. Each design iteration includes updated renderings, an order confirmation with all dimensions and finishes, and a complete quote.
Materials and Construction
-
Tekka units are built around MDF substrate finished with either real wood veneer or ultra-matte premium laminate, depending on your finish selection. Hardware is German-spec — concealed European hinges, premium drawer slides, and hydraulic mechanisms for wall beds.
-
The Tekka palette includes seven real wood veneers — Pearl Oak, Nordic Oak, Natural Oak, French Oak, Frosted Walnut, and Spanish Oak — and fourteen ultra-matte laminates spanning warm neutrals, deep tones, and accent colours. Finishes can be mixed across fronts, frames, backs, edges, and recessed handles, allowing significant personalization within a controlled palette.
-
Yes — built to last decades, and backed by a 10-year limited warranty. Real materials, precision fabrication, and quality hardware throughout. Tekka is not designed to be replaced. It's designed to age alongside the home it's in.
-
In our Vancouver workshop, by the same team that designs the system. Every unit is built to order.
Installation and Lead Times
-
From approved order and deposit to ready-for-install is typically four to six weeks. Specification and design refinement before that typically takes one to three weeks depending on project complexity. Most projects move from first conversation to completed installation in six to ten weeks.
-
Within the Vancouver region, our own team installs every Tekka unit. In other markets, installation may be carried out by an authorized installer trained in the system.
-
Most residential installations are completed in a single day. Larger, multi-room projects may extend over several days. We install Monday through Friday during standard business hours. The work is clean and quiet — the majority of assembly is done with a single 4mm hex key.
-
Walls finished and painted, flooring complete, any electrical or AV rough-ins in place, and the install area clear and accessible. We coordinate with you in the weeks before install to confirm site readiness.
-
Yes. Units are typically delivered partially pre-assembled and can be delivered flat-packed if access requires it. Where access is constrained, we conduct a site survey in advance to plan accordingly.
Pricing and Ordering
-
Pricing varies based on the units specified, finishes selected, and overall configuration — but we publish example pricing alongside the configurations shown on our website so you can see real numbers before reaching out. We believe transparency engenders trust, and we are not shy about our pricing. Tekka sits between fully custom millwork (typically more expensive) and standard modular furniture (typically lower quality and less durable).
-
All specified Tekka units, your selected materials and finishes, delivery to site, installation by our team, and applicable taxes.
-
A 50% deposit is required to move into production. The balance is due upon completion of installation.
-
Initial consultation, 3D renderings, and quoting are complimentary as part of the standard sales process. For projects that move beyond Tekka into fully custom design work, custom design and programming time are quoted separately.
-
We offer an On-site Consultation and Measuring service (OCAM) as an optional addition to any project. During OCAM, we visit your home with our 3D measuring device and a complete finish sample kit. We capture the space precisely, identify any site-specific conditions that may affect installation, and sit with you in the actual room — discussing the design, walking through finish options against your existing materials and natural light, and resolving the practical details that are always easier to address in person than in renderings. OCAM is quoted separately and applied to the project price.
Care, Warranty, and Long-Term
-
Yes — every Tekka unit is backed by a 10-year limited warranty covering defects in materials, workmanship, and mechanical components, when used under normal residential conditions. Full warranty terms are provided at installation.
-
A complete Care and Maintenance guide is emailed to every client after installation. Most surfaces require nothing more than a soft, dry cloth for daily cleaning. The guide covers specific recommendations for real wood veneer, ultra-matte laminate, hardware, and wall bed mechanisms.
